Notes:
Buster Crabbe (born Clarence Linden Crabbe) was an Olympic swimmer, actor, and USC graduate. In 1932, Crabbe received the gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle swim at the 10th Olympiad in Los Angeles. As the first Olympic champion to successfully go into show business, Crabbe’s acting credits include motion picture and television serials and feature films.
The Buster Crabbe Personal Film Collection, donated to USC by Crabbe’s wife Virginia and his family, contains black and white 16mm prints of two motion picture serials (Flash Gordon and Red Barry), episodes from the television series Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion (a.k.a. Foreign Legionnaire), feature films starring or featuring Crabbe, home movies, footage of Crabbe’s 1932 Olympic win, a lecture film, and a t-shirt commercial starring Crabbe. Paperwork includes articles about Crabbe: his acting contributions, swimming achievements, and time spent at USC.
