Here is a short 18 minute interview between John Hoffman (longtime collaborator with Vorky) and Oscar winning cinematographer Lee Garmes (Shanghai Express). It appears that the interview was done in Feb 1977 shortly before a tribute to Slavko Vorkapich that Hoffman organized. Throughout the talk they discuss Lee’s first meeting with Vorky on the set of Crime Without Passion (1934) and make reference to others in the industry such as Ben Hecht, Charles MacArthur, Alice Terry. A rare insight and some behind the scenes anecdotes from two pioneers of motion pictures. If you have never seen Crime Without Passion look it up on youtube as the opening montage by Vorky is incredible.
Taken from an unmarked 1/4 inch audio reel found in the bottom of a box of deteriorated film from the Vorkapich/Hoffman collection.
