Eric Berndt was not only a remarkable engineer of cameras and motion picture equipment he was also one of the preeminent researchers on the scientific and technical history of the field. This somewhat small but extremely useful collection amounted to a card catalog of Eric’s books on the history. Because of the age of most of these books they can be found digitized, but scattered and unrelated, but if you open the following PDF file you will find Eric’s typed reference notes regarding his personal copies’ of each book, and the fact that they are in this list means they have some important information relating to the history of motion pictures, magic lanterns, moving images and such.
In 1969 Eric’s lifelong collection of motion picture equipment and papers went off in at least 3 different directions with the bulk of it being purchased by Universal Studios, some of the papers going to Chapman University and the experimental 3mm equipment came here to Herb Farmer at USC.
